In March we gathered at Vystar Ballpark for a morning filled with discussion, CEUs and a great open ended chat with the Jumbo Shrimp’s own Josh Leo, Sports Turf Manager, who manages the ball parks surfaces and field of play. Josh recently went through a massive renovation project where the full rootzone, drainage, irrigation, clay and turf were replaced. They also moved bullpens to out beyond the outfield fence to create a safer space for pitchers to warm up and be game ready.
Next, Nick Fedewa and the Jacksonville Jaguars Grounds crew led a quick talk and tour of the new(er) practice facility which was recently sodded with Tahoma 31. While still a little dormant, Nick was able to walk through the pro’s and con’s and the process. We toured the AirPat room which is always quite an interesting topic – push or pull air on demand through the drainage/root zone to accommodate for weather events, temperature swings and other benefits.
We had a great turn out of attendees from all over North Florida and appreciated everyone who was able to attend! Meetings like these are just a part of what we’re about.
